Dog rescued from being slaughtered

By Bernadette H. Carreon

A dog who was reportedly abused has been rescued on ChristmasDay , according to the Animal Shelter.
Dr. Mihnea Muresanu, Koror State Government veterinarian said that the dog they called Sola was found in the jungle in Airai State, its legs tied at its back and is reportedly going to be slaughtered for food.
Muresanu said that one of the Animal Shelter’s volunteer, Nobuku received a call from the security of Daewoo Corporation that a dog was found in the jungle tied up.
Along with Sola, another dog was found hanging on the tree, already dead and reportedly skinned.
Muresanu alleged that this is not the first reported case of abuse or dogs being slaughtered in that area for its meat.
He alleged that Vietnamese nationals working at Daewoo are reportedly behind the slaughtering.
He said this is obviously a case of animal cruelty but assured that Sola is on its way to recovery after painkillers and antibiotics were administered on the dog.
Kuniko Yasuda, another volunteer at the Animal Shelter said that Daewoo Managing Director Kim Min-Sok has agreed to help stop animal cruelty.
Yasuda said Daewoo is considering asking its workers to sign an agreement that they will not resort to animal cruelty.
Muresanu said the alleged abuser cannot be fined because there is no existing law against animal cruelty in Airai State.
He said Sola, whose owner is a Filipino worker in Daewoo is looking for a new home.
Muresanu said the owner has expressed fear that his dog will again be a victim of torture since he cannot look after the dog because he is working.
