L&S maintains perfect record

By Jonathan V. Perez
Variety News Staff

L&S/KYUNG-Seung maintained its perfect record beating a hard-fighting Onwel squad in the resumption of action in the Men’s Football League on Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
The win was the third straight in as many games for L&S to foil the league debut of a gritty Thai-backed Onwel team.
Jahangir Hossain again led L&S’ offense scoring twice, including the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the contest that broke a 2-2 tie.
Jung-Ryul Lee opened up the scoring for L&S when he headed home a carefully executed corner kick.
Onwel, which was formed during the holiday break, relied on the goals of Somboon Plaengsri and Yok Soejing.
Trailing 2-0, Plaengsri pulled Onwel back into the game before the end of the first half.
Soejing leveled the count at 2-2 early in the second half and the score remained tied heading into the final five minutes of the match when Hossain connected for the game winner.
The Pacific Telecom Inc. Guardians and Korean One put their troubles behind them to score similar 2-1 victories over Alliance and Independent.
MD Rokibul of the Guardians and Korean One’s Sung In Kim were suspended for three games by the Northern Marian Islands Football Association board due to their unsportsmanlike behavior in a game last Dec. 17.
Bishow Shretha and Sanu Giri scored once to secure the win for the Guardians while Alliance notched its first goal courtesy of Jinzai Huang’s late-game effort.
Korean One, meanwhile, needed a goal each from Eui Suk Ko and Young Woon Choi to slip past the Independents.
It was a tight match all through out the two 35-minute halves with Korean One gathering all of its energy to foil the Independents’ bid to earn its first win.
Aaron Rath scored for the Independents.
In the final match, Real Mariana goalie Sanjay Dangol did a solid job in foiling several scoring chances of Fiesta Inter to force their opponents to a scoreless draw.
In other news, the NMIFA board reduced to three games the seven-game suspension given earlier to Rokibul and Kim.
Their suspensions were reduced by the NMIFA board after hearing their appeals.
Action resumes on Jan. 14, Sunday, when Korean One battles Onwel in the 12 noon opener followed by the Real Mariana-PTI Guardians match at 1:30 p.m.
Alliance clashes with the Independents at 3 p.m. while Fiesta Inter will close out the games when they go up against the unbeatable L&S side at 4 p.m.
