THE Refaluwasch Golfers Association will present another award at the end of the 2007 season with the club choosing its Player of the Year.
The recipient of the Player of the Year award will be the RGA member who earns the most points at the end of the season.
RGA president Jess Wabol said the points will come from the tournaments a member competes in.
“If an RGA member places first in a tournament, either an RGA-sanctioned event or other local tournament, he gets five points. Second placers get four points, while third placers earn three,” Wabol said.
Wabol added that RGA members who placed out of the top three will automatically get one point per tournament.
The RGA head will discuss the new award in the club’s next meeting.
Wabol disclosed that they thought of giving points to members to select the players that will represent RGA in LaoLao’s Ryder Cup- style tournament.
“LaoLao is planning to hold a Ryder Cup-like tournament at the end of the year. We don’t yet know how many players we will be fielding in the LaoLao tournament, but to be fair to all, we thought of implementing a point system for the selection of players,” Wabol said.
In the Ryder Cup-style tournament, RGA members will be clashing with representatives of the Saipan Golfers Association, Fil-Taga and the Korean Golfers Association.
“RGA has two tournaments per month so a member has a chance to earn 24 points from our tournaments and boost his chances for a slot in the club’s team for the LaoLao event,” he added.
The Player of the Year award will be given after the RGA “Plas M. Tagabuel” Club Championships in December.
The Player of the Year will be joining three other awardees, namely the recipients of the Sid K. Peter, Tony M. Taitano and RGA Cup trophies.
The RGA Cup trophy is reserved for the winner of the club championship, while the Sid K. Peter plum is for the member who played in the most tournaments since January.
The recipient of the Tony M. Taitano trophy will be the golfer who scored the lowest net for the year. A member will qualify for the Tony M. Taitano award only if he competed in at least 10 monthly tournaments.
Last year, Adam Harwicke took the RGA Cup, Alex Aquiningoc won the Tony M. Taitano trophy, while Wabol claimed the Sid K. Peter plum.
