Another copper wire theft

By Cherrie Anne E. Villahermosa
Variety News Staff

COPPER wire at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. pump station in Puerto Rico has been stolen, the Department of Public Safety said.
Acting DPS spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr. said police received a call from CUC’s control room about the incident at 6:19 p.m. on Saturday.
A preliminary investigation conducted by Patrol Officer Michael Camacho disclosed that an employee of CUC’s control room received a call from a customer regarding the water pressure in Puerto Rico.
The employee checked the water pump station and discovered that the drop lines for the water well had been cut and stolen.
DPS has noted a rise in copper wire thefts beginning last year, but has not yet arrested any suspects.
DPS is urging anyone with information about this or other crimes to call Crime Stoppers at 234-7272 or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9045.
