THE government, on the second day of the jury trial of a former Coastal Resource Management Office employee, presented four witnesses, two of whom say they were victims of Benny K. Pangelinan.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Moore yesterday called to the witness stand Pang Hong Cabrera, Conrad Sablan, Henry K. Pangelinan and FBI agent Joseph Auther.
Pang Hong Cabrera and Conrad Sablan were among those persons that Pangelinan victimized when he borrowed money from them on false and fraudulent pretenses, presentations and promises, the prosecution said.
Cabrera is the owner of the Cabrera Water Company while Sablan is a part owner of Sablan Hardware.
The government on the first day of the trial presented four witnesses — Roberta Guerrero, vice president of Western Union; Sachiko Adachi, a former teacher at Marianas High School; Allan Lacsamana; and Mark Rabauliman.
Adachi is another victim of Pangelinan, according to the prosecution which rested its case yesterday morning after the testimony of the last witness, Sablan.
Defense attorney Joseph Camacho made his opening argument yesterday morning and presented Pangelinan as witness for the defense.
U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Alex R. Munson excused the jurors before noon and instructed them to return to court today at 9 a.m. for the continuance of the trial.
Pangelinan was arrested on June 15, 2006 and indicted on five counts of wire fraud.
