Delivery truck overturns, spills produce

By Trina A. San Agustin

LOBSTER, steaks and other produce were emptied out of a Quality Distributors refrigerated delivery truck after it overturned on Route 14 in Tumon yesterday morning.
Guam Police Department Highway Division officer Jed Santo Tomas said the accident took place shortly before 9 a.m.
"A Quality Distributors refrigerated delivery truck lost control while going North Bound down Santos Hill. In the driver’s attempt to minimize injury, he took a right turn onto Route 14 towards the Nikko Hotel by the Outback," Santo Tomas said.
The driver was injured when he was ejected from the truck--a result of not wearing a safety belt.
"The vehicle overturned and ridded itself. That means that because of the momentum, the truck went on its side, slammed on the island, and landed back on its tires. If the truck continued to roll, it would have rolled right on top of the ejected driver," he added.
The GPD Highway Division continues to investigate the accident, and is looking into whether speed was a factor.
