5K run on Martin Luther King Day

FREEDOM Run, a 5K run sponsored by the 8th grade class at the Saipan Seventh-day Adventist School, will be held on Monday, Jan. 15,a media release said.
The run is a fundraiser for the 8th grade class trip, as well as an event to pay tribute to the great civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr.
The 8th grade class is raising funds for its annual class trip.
In the past, classes have visited Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, Palau, Hawaii, Thailand and South Korea.
This year the students hope to visit Singapore, and for the first time several high school freshman from the SDA School will join them on their journey as well.
The students will spend several weeks learning about the geography, history, and culture of Southeast Asia in general and Singapore specifically before traveling to the island nation to learn about and experience Singapore firsthand.
Freedom Run is the second 5K run sponsored by the Saipan SDA School.
The first race, Run 2 Palau, was sponsored by REAL Christian Theater, a drama club sponsored by Saipan SDA School, as a fundraiser for the troupe’s tour of Palau.
REAL club director Sean Maycock felt that run was so much fun and so successful that he decided to make a similar race the centerpiece of the fundraising efforts for his 8th grade class, of which he is the co-sponsor.
The run will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Garapan Fishing Base and end at AJ’s restaurant.
The registration fee is $10 and all finishers will be eligible for prizes at a drawing to be held after the race.
Registration for the run will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15.
Participants may pre-register at the Saipan SDA School or Saipan SDA Dental Clinic.
When the race is finished transportation back to the Garapan Fishing Base will be provided for those who need it.
Maycock hopes to make the run an annual event that benefits the students and pays tribute to the great civil rights leader.
