Parents behind bars for abandoning 6 children

By Trina A. San Agustin

POLICE arrested the parents of six children who were allegedly abandoned for several days last week in a Yigo residence.
Guam Police Department public affairs officer Allan Guzman said Jeffery Aguon Reyes, 34, and Kaylani Marie Simmons Reyes, 34, have a history of child abandonment and child abuse.
The parents, who reside in Mangilao, were charged with six counts each of child abuse and child neglect. They remain behind bars.
“The mother said she left them to look for a new place to live. And apparently, she didn’t go back to pick up the kids. On the third day, the mother went to retrieve the kids to take them back to Mangilao but they weren’t there,” Guzman told Variety.
Guzman said the children were abandoned for three days.
The children, aged between three months and 12 years, remain in the custody of the Child Protective Services.
Guzman said the children are not expected to be returned to their parents anytime soon.
CPS and GPD are investigating the case.
The children were reported abandoned by a tenant of the building at 4:26 p.m. on Friday.
The mother and father of the children told the tenant that they were going to the store. The female tenant, however, was surprised to learn days later that the parents had not yet returned.
