On the casino petition

THIS is an open letter to encourage everyone and in particular women to come out on Saturday, Jan. 13, beginning at 8 o’clock in the morning at the Civic Center Basketball Court to support the launching of the signature drive for the Northern Marianas descent casino petition.
We are proponents of the Local Initiative “Saipan Casino Act” for the Third Senatorial District of Saipan and Islands North of Saipan. This local initiative provides for the establishment, control, management and ownership rights by persons of Northern Marianas descent.
The local economy is not improving and such economic trend will inevitably and immensely reduce revenue collections, which means that government employees will be adversely affected through installed austerity measures. This is an imminent threat to the wellfare of the local people and most especially those families (husband and wife) that are employed by or are dependent on government jobs/contracts.
This imminent threat is not strange in our community. We have been keeping close watch on its adverse effects. We need to deal with it in every possible ways and means. The casino movement has gained certain popularity in the local community and we as firm supporters of the Saipan Casino Act encourage everyone to sign the petition and vote in support of the petition in this year general election.
This casino movement for the Third Senatorial District would also benefit persons of NMD from Tinian and Rota and indirectly provides benefits for all people in the commonwealth through jobs, infrastructures, and other opportunities.
Please come join us and we thank you very much for your support.
