FORMER Guam Public School System Superintendent Rosie Tainatongo and former GPSS comptroller Raymond Miranda were in the courtroom yesterday for a motion hearing on the corruption case filed against them in 2005.
Tainatongo and Miranda were indicted for their alleged non-payment of Retirement Fund contributions deducted from GPSS employees’ salaries.
Tainatongo filed a motion to dismiss the case due to insufficient grounds.
According to the grand jury indictment, Tainatongo and Miranda conspired between Oct. 5, 2002 and Dec. 31, 2002 to take monies deducted from education employees’ salaries for payment into the Government of Guam Retirement Fund but used those funds for other purposes.
They were charged with conspiracy for misapplication of entrusted funds as a third-degree felony, conspiracy for failure to pay wages as a third-degree felony, misapplication of entrusted funds as a misdemeanor, failure to pay wages as a misdemeanor, and official misconduct as a misdemeanor.
The continuation of the hearing is set next month.
