Power outages is scheduled
in Ngerikiil , Airai for two Sundays starting on January 7 to give way
to the power pole replacement in the area.
Jeffrey Allen Yates, Site Engineer Assistant of the Tao-Yuan Construction
Co. Ltd. said the power shutoff is set on January 7 and 14 from 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. but the company is working to reduce the time of the interruption.
Yates said the power pole replaced is part of the ongoing improvement
and expansion works on the road from the Palau International Airport to
Ngerikiil.
The four kilometer road is a very critical thoroughfare, it the road usually
taken by government employees and officials on their way to work to the
capitol.
Improvement of the road begun on June 2006 and is scheduled to be complete
by June 2008.
Yates said that the power shutoff will be in coordination with the Palau
Public Utilities Corporation (PPUC).
Yates said that that there will be six power poles that will be replaced
with concrete ones.
Tao-Yuan is a construction company based in Taiwan and this is the first
time that they are conducting a project in Palau.
The Taiwanese company is one of the top construction companies in their
country.
That part of the road is being improved to make it more passable and cut
travel time to the capitol.
The improvement of the road also ensures that there will be no section
that will not be paved on the way to the capitol.
