GPSS: Ban on school bags stays

By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

WHILE Guam Education Policy Board chairman Peter Alexcis Ada announced on Thursday that the ban on school bags was lifted, the Guam Public School System says it isn’t.
GPSS spokesperson Gerry Cruz said the lifting of the school bag ban would be done by the GPSS superintendent and not the education board.
Cruz said the school bag ban is an operational matter and the board does not have the authority to lift the ban.
“They (GEPB) are a policy board,” Cruz said.
Cruz requested that the correct information about the bag ban be printed.
Ada earlier said that the ban was lifted after the board adopted a new search and seizure policy.
Ada later told Variety that he was at fault for the misinformation.
