THE U.S. District Court of
Guam has scheduled a March 8 trial for the man who was indicted after
receiving a DHL package that contained methamphetamine.
Ryan Jason Wall, 32 , who was charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine
and attempted possession of methamphetamine with an intent to distribute,
entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment on Friday.
The court ordered his detention after he failed to appear for prior court
hearings and failed to abide by court orders.
He was arrested in a controlled delivery operation by federal drug enforcement
agents at the DHL complex in Tiyan on Jan. 2.
His arrest was made after a caller told a task force agent of the U.S.
Drug Enforcement Administration that a DHL package containing the drug
ice sent from Washington will be sent to Guam with Wall as
an identified recipient.
The caller also said that Wall previously received a DHL package on Dec.
6 and that approximately 5 ounces of ice were concealed in
the package.
On Dec. 30, DEA agents checked the DHL tracking number thru the Web site
and learned that the package arrived on Guam at 8 a.m. The DHL package
was omitted from the airline manifest and the package had been routed
from Fife, Washington to Los Angeles, California, to China, and Guam.
On the same day, the package was X-rayed at the Guam International Airport.
The X-ray revealed the package contained an organic substance consistent
with contraband.
A search warrant was obtained from a magistrate judge on Dec. 31 which
was subsequently executed to open the package. When opened, the package
revealed 118.9 gross grams of crystal concealed within bath products.
The controlled delivery operation was conducted on Jan. 2, 2007. Wall
walked into the DHL complex at 5:18 p.m., provided a tracking number,
and received the package. Authorities arrested Wall as he was exiting
the building.
