A man has been charged with
murder for the alleged killing of another man two days before Christmas.
Based on Criminal Case No. 06-307 ,Leeroy Darius Hugo is facing one count
of murder in the first degree and one count of murder in the second degree.
Murder carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
According to the affidavit of probable cause executed by Bureau of Public
Safety officer Willie Mays Towai, he was assigned to investigate a stabbing
incident that occurred outside of Mets Club in Medalaii ,early morning
of Dec. 23, 2006.
The affidavit said that Tyrone Thing, and defendant Hugo who were both
working for Koror State as rangers , had an altercation at the Peleliu
Club.
The affidavit said neither man was intoxicated although started drinking
Friday, Dec. 22.
It added that during the altercation, Thing reportedly struck Hugo once
in the chest area.
The tiff was stopped after people intervened and called the police.
Hugo, Thing and a companion of Hugo was ejected from the Peleliu Club
for the fight.
The affidavit said Thing was brought by the police to his house but drove
back down to the Medalii area.
Thing then went to Mets between 1 to 1:30 a.m. of Dec. 23, which is located
across Peleliu Club.
Thing allegedly sat down on a bench outside of the Mets door and was chatting
with the club bouncer when Hugo reportedly approached him.
The affidavit said that Hugo and Thing briefly spoke when the defendant
reportedly took a knife and stabbed the victim.
The victim was reportedly stabbed at the upper back area and twice in
the upper chest area.
The affidavit said that witnesses who saw the incident said the incident
happened so fast and that Hugo reportedly ran towards the road after allegedly
stabbing Thing.
The club bouncer tried to help Thing when he fell to the ground, the affidavit
further said.
The police arrived to rush Thing to the hospital but he was pronounced
dead in the hospital apparently due to the fatal wounds sustained from
the stabbing.
The affidavit also added that Hugo arrived at the police station voluntary
morning of Dec. 23 and allegedly admitted to the crime to Officer Towai
and Lt. Detective Aloysius Alonz.
The affidavit said Hugo admitted stabbing Thing and claimed that the victim
was responsible for his punctured car tires.
During the arraignment hearing on Jan. 2, Hugo entered a plea of not guilty
to all charges, based on court documents.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Arthur Ngiraklsong set the bail $15,000 surety.
The order further stated that a status conference is set on January 22.
