Ngerbeched is seeking its
first Palau Major League championship trophy since winning it last five
years ago.
For several years, the team has been in the playoffs but reached the finals
at best for four straight years and third last year.
This year may be the banner season for John Wong.
"Were really hungry for it," he said before Ngerbeched
went into action against an equally established team in last nights
opening game of the 2007 season.
As of presstime, however, Airai was leading at 7-2 over Ngerbeched in
the bottom of the seventh inning.
The league changed the rule to ninth inning this season.
"We have a lot of veterans in this team. Of course we have also a
good chance," said Wong, who was last seasons PML President.
Wong picked Airai, PCC and Kayangel as the teams to beat.
"Everybody has the chance of winning the title. Were not going
to take the other teams lightly," he said.
Ngerbeched has been practicing just before Christmas.
"We have to get our act together and go for the championship,"
Wong said.
He said that since it will be a ninth inning game, the team must do a
lot of good pitching hoping for the younger players to pick-up with the
veterans.
"We have some young and good infielder and outfielder. Our defense
is good too," he said.
Ngerbeched is having six national players in the line-up including Eric
Kyota, Kalei Lui, and ace pitcherDrake Yosiwo.
Kyota, who is best remembered for his winning homerun that gave defending
champion a back-to-back last season, said he is raring to play with his
former team.
He played for two years in Ngerbeched before moving to Koror last year.
The others in the roster are Mala Rikrik, Billy Umang, Saisang Ngirmidol.
Brent Melairei, Rivery Delutaoch, Bradley Kazuma, Dale Pascual, Turo Tellei,
Phillip Terenciano, Clint Mersai, Madri Smus, Alonz Moses, Glen Palacios
and Dino Mesubed.
