Disability bill put on hold in Cooks

RAROTONGA (Pacnews) — People living with disability in the Cook Islands have been hit by news that a proposed draft disability bill will not be ready by June as planned.
The bill probably won’t be considered until the national disability policy was further advanced in its implementation.
For disabled people in the Cook Islands, it continues a long drawn out affair initiated when Cook Islands became a signatory in 2000 to the Asian and Pacific Decade for the Disabled Person.
Disability Action Team leader Donna Smith said legislation could provide architects, builders, planners and employers an incentive to consider the needs of the disabled.
