THE sentencing of a man who
pleaded guilty to an indictment charging him for being a felon in possession
of a firearm has been re-scheduled for April.
Joseph J.F. Reyess case is originally set for sentencing tomorrow
at 9 a.m. but a stipulation signed by the U.S. Attorneys Office
and his lawyer, Richard Arens, stated that the court proceeding will be
continued for three months.
Reyes, 30, was convicted in the Superior Court of Guam in 1996 for five
counts of forgery and assault.
On July 2, 2006, Reyes possessed a Glock .45 caliber handgun he bought
from off-island.
Reyes entered a plea agreement on Sept. 27, 2006 and agreed to cooperate
with federal law enforcement agents concerning their investigation of
illegal firearms and related unlawful activities.
The maximum sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm is incarceration
for 10 years and a $250,000 fine with a supervised release of not more
than three years.
The incarceration could reach 12 years if the offender violates his condition
of supervised release.
