For Variety
LIVING the dream and sharing
it with others will be the lesson of the day at the Leo Palace Softball
Field this Saturday as Major League Baseball Player John Hattig Jr. helps
conduct a clinic for island youth.
Hattig, the islands first homegrown MLB player will team up with
IT&E and members of the Guam National Baseball Team on Saturday at
the Leo Palace grounds to discuss the basics of becoming a ballplayer.
According to Hattig the clinic is open to children aged 5 years to 12
and will focus on basic and advanced techniques for skills needed to learn
how to hit, proper base running techniques and proper fielding in the
infield and outfield.
There is a cost to be incurred for individuals. For one child, the cost
will be $25, $35 for two children and $50 for four children. IT&E
announced that all proceeds from the clinic will go to the Guam Baseball
Community.
I just enjoy giving back and doing this with the children. Hopefully,
theyll be able to learn some new things in the clinic, said
Hattig.
Ive been meeting a lot of kids and I know that theres
a real opportunity for me to introduce myself to the kids and this gives
me and them a chance to interact, even with other local standouts here
on Guam.
The major leaguer added, Maybe one day well see another one
of us up there side by side. Thats why we want to do this. Were
going to reiterate the basics, tweak it and show them how they can improve
and focus on fundamentals to build their game not only at practice but
even at home.
Hattig explained, The goal is to help the kids continually improve
their game.
IT&E reminded the public that space is limited to the first 100 participants.
Individuals may register at the IT&E office in Harmon, Compadres Mall,
NEX, Micronesia Mall and Sinajana Store. Those wishing to participate
must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. The deadline for registration
is noon tomorrow.
