Air Force Civic Action Team
07-03 has completed recently two new projects in Peleliu State.
Capt. Ryan Walinski, CAT Officer In Charge said his team has finished
the Peleliu Airfield Upgrade and Lighting System Installation last week
and the Peleliu War Museum air condition installation.
The Peleliu Airfield which is 6,039 feet long and 100 feet wide has undergone
upgrading and lights were installed to get it ready for emergency landing.
Walinski said a total of 68 lights were installed and the lights cost
$350 a piece and were purchased through the Vice Presidents Office.
He added that lights were placed 193 feet apart along the runway and that
according to Federal Aviation Administration rules said that it must be
placed at a maximum of 200 feet apart.
He also noted that all the brackets to mount the lights were made by the
prisoners at the National Prison in Koror.
TSgt Chris Jayne, TSgt Shawn Lindsey and SSgt Nick Leuer were the CAT
members involved in the project.
CAT Apprentices Maurice Takawo, Alder Santos, Dailey Ueki meanwhile helped
in the project.
He said tat it took five days to complete the project.
For the Peleliu War Museum Air Conditioning Installation, the team put
in place three split system air conditioners.
Walinski said the air conditioning units were installed to keep a climate
controlled environment within the building.
The units will increase the life of the artifacts and other memorabilia
in the Museum, he said.
He said that over 1,000 feet of wire and over 200 feet of conduit to power
the outdoor and indoor air conditioning units were used.
TSgt Ruebin Long and SSgt Scott Boucher were responsible for the project
with CAT Apprentices Shelton Ilemelong and Junior Benjamins help.
The project which took three days to complete was funded by Steve Cypra,
a sibling of a World War II veteran.
