THE second round of the World Organized Rocball Community League started yesterday with qualifiers Black Magic and Kich Fairo splitting the first two sets of their match at the Marianas High School Gym.
Black Magic drew first blood taking an eight-point win in the opening set, 15-7.
But Black Magic ran out of tricks in the second set, which Kich Fairo won, 15-13.
Kich Fairo and Black Magic played the third set yesterday, but the match was halted, as students needed to return to class.
Black Magic was leading, 6-3, when the game was temporarily stopped. It resumes today.
At the resumption of the match, Black Magic will be enjoying a 34-25 lead.
If Black Magic prevails in the third set, Kich Fairo must win the fourth set to send the game in overtime.
J.J. Mality and Joe Taitano was leading Black Magic with eight points apiece.
Taitano has scored three aces and a jam, while Mality has earned two xunxs, an ace and a kee.
Kich Fairo’s Typhoon Saito scored the lone goal so far in the game drilling his goal in the first set.
Six teams qualified for the second round of the annual tournament.
Joining Kich Fairo and Black Magic in the next round are the defending champions Mwaliyas, Watch & Learn, the Dublon Chiefs and Da Lani Kynez.
The six teams will be playing in a round-robin playoff with each squad having five games.
The top four teams after the round-robin playoffs will advance to the semifinals.
In the semis, the No. 1 team meets the No. 4 squad, while the No. 2 team is paired with the No. 3 squad.
The semifinals will be a best-of-three affair with the winners moving into the championship round, which will have a best-of-five format.
Ten teams competed in this year’s tournament with the Ballers, Bwi Bwiis, 670’s Finest and the Caropinos getting their exit slips last month after losing three times in the first round.
