THE Dino Sores broke into
the win column in the 45-and-up division of the Masters Basketball League
after downing NIC, 67-49, last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
The Dino Sores, who dropped their first two games, played better in the
second half to nail an 18-point win over NIC.
NIC was still in the game in the first half down by only three, 26-29,
when the Dino Sores bench stepped up in the second half.
Ric Northen scored the Dino Sores first five points, while David
Steinberg drilled all his four points in the third quarter.
Allen Lebria, Theo Alphonzo and Scott Norman also contributed on offense
in the third canto, as the Dino Sores earned an 11-point lead, 47-36,
entering the final quarter.
Alphonzo, who topscored for the Dino Sores with 20 points, picked up where
he left off in the fourth period, scoring six straight points at the start
of the payoff canto and the Dino Sores never looked back.
Two other Dino Sores players scored in double figures with Norman adding
14 and Lebria chipping in 10.
Only one NIC player scored in double figure with Sonny Ebuen firing 10.
Neither team was able to find its marks in the first quarter with the
Dino Sores firing only 11 points and NIC drilling 10.
Norman and Alphonzo joined forces in the second quarter combining for
12 of their teams 18 points in that period to keep the Dino Sores
on top at halftime.
Meanwhile, NIC hopes to bounce back and earn its first win when it faces
the OldAces in the second game in the 45-and-up division tonight
at 8 p.m.
Undefeated teams LBT and the Tropical Storm square off in the first match
at 6:30 p.m.
On Friday, the Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Islands has
scheduled two matches in the 35-and-up division with the Typhoon meeting
PTI in the first game at 6:30 p.m.
The second match at 8 p.m. will feature the OldAces challenging
Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense.
