Former principal’s trial moved

By Gina Tabonares
Variety News Staff

THE trial of former B.P. Carbullido Elementary School principal Glenna Woodruff has been moved to February to give way to a possible settlement between her and the government lawyer.
Woodruff was charged with theft of property held in trust and official misconduct. She is expected to be in the Superior Court tomorrow for her motion to dismiss the case against her.
According to her lawyer, Mike Phillips, the parties are trying to reach an agreement and the court agreed to reschedule the pre-trial conference on Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m.
The defendant wants the court to dismiss the remaining case against her, after Judge Steven Unpingco dismissed the first indictment against her on July 17, 2005 due to insufficient evidence.
Woodruff, 45, was first indicted two years ago after she was accused of stealing money from a school fund.
The first indictment refers to theft of property that belongs to the Student Activity Money Committee, which all witnesses testified did not exist.
However, on April 15, the Attorney General’s Office filed a superceding indictment and charged Woodruff with theft of property held in trust, misapplication of entrusted funds, and two counts of official misconduct in connection with allegations that she wrote checks to herself amounting to $2,300 from the school’s First Hawaiian Bank account.
