CUC: Saipan water meets EPA standards

By Emmanuel T. Erediano

SAIPAN’S water system has not been cited for a violation for over 13 months and has met the Environmental Protection Agency’s safe drinking water bacteriological standards, according to Commonwealth Utilities Corp. spokeswoman Pamela Mathis.
She said their water division has successfully treated the water it provides the public and this is why CUC Executive Director Anthony C. Guerrero honored on Wednesday four employees of the division.
Trades technician Adrian Torre, chlorination team leader Bernard Keremius, trades assistants Jimmy Marquez and Newhart Techur check 47 treatment stations on Saipan twice daily, 365 days a year, Mathis said.
Guerrerro personally thanked the four employees for their dedication to public safety, saying that he has watched them himself at the stations every day and has observed that they never report late for work.
The water division’s acting manager, Mariano Iglecias, said CUC has not had a similar safety record in water treatment in the past nine years.
“I really want everyone to see these men, know their names and to thank them for their diligence and commitment to making sure the water is safe,” Iglecias said.
