Eagle Field in Mangilao rejuvenated

By R. Vincent Tupaz

MONEYS from the federal government helped one Mayor revitalize one of the island’s most popular playing fields.
Over the last couple of weeks Passers-by noticed new offerings and a fresh clean look at the Eagle Field in Mangilao.
According to Mangilao Mayor Nonito Blas the village used monies that were received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to make the necessary upgrades after past typhoons took their toll on the Mangilao site and systematically tore down a main pavilion, some dugouts and backstops.
The field is a multi-use field and has been home to many sports organizations and teams throughout the years.
The Guam Youth Football League utilizes the field as a game location and practice field. As well surrounding schools and village teams make use of the site as a venue for practice and pick-me-up games for softball, football, rugby, baseball and soccer.
Improvements to the field include several new pavilions, new backstops for the baseball and softball fields and other incidental upgrades.
Yesterday, rugby teams and a baseball team were using the site. A couple of the ball players and villagers made use of the pavilion to escape the setting sun’s blazing rays.
“This is a great thing the Mayor did. It’s really a lot better looking and I think the people that use this field will have more respect for the vast land that’s here,” stated Mangilao resident Harry Bolivar.
“Yeah, we used to barbecue here and enjoy the cool breeze from the trade winds when I was a student at the Guam Community College,” added Jay Reyes. “This is good, maybe we can begin barbecuing here again.”
