ORGANIZERS of the Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Island’s 25-an-under Basketball League disclosed that 11 teams have expressed an interest in joining the annual tournament.
According to league coordinator Abner Venus, the list includes two teams from the Garapan Rollers and the San Antonio Sixers, the Sonics, Ghasias Brothers, Ol’Aces, Cholos, Saints, a team from Susupe and the CNMI junior national team.
“We will need confirmation from these teams by the end of this month,” said Venus, who met with representatives of the interested teams yesterday in the conference room at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
During the meeting, organizers and team representatives agreed on the $500 entrance fee. If participating teams want to have uniforms (top only), they will pay $650.
Venus said they will be using the 25-and-under league to prepare the CNMI Junior Nationals, who will be playing in a regional tournament on Guam in November.
Organizers are hoping to open the league in the last week of February.
Venus said they will be talking with the Division of Sports and Recreation about the availability of the Ada Gym, and they are targeting Tuesday and Thursday playing schedules.
The Toyota Ol’Aces won the 2005 edition of the 25-and-under caging beating Ulloa’s in the finals, 95-86.
