Japanese students show Aikido skills at PCC

A group of Japanese visitors, who are students of Aikido Grand Master Gyoichi Mibukawa, held a demonstration show of their skills in this ancient combat sport yesterday at the Palau Community College Mesekiu Bai Yard.
PCC President Patrick Tellei welcomed the 25 visitors, composed of Mibukawa and 18 students from different universities like in Hiroshima and Okayama.
Mibukawa, who is on his 13th visit to Palau including a dive with President Remengesau, and his students amazed the crowd during the demonstration that included the use of a sword and stick as well as self defense techniques especially for women.
The Japanese students also let some of the PCC students to experience Aikido.
Masao Kikuchi, Executive Administrator of Rock Island Tour Company Ltd., said the trip is for the Japanese students for an exchange discussion on cultures and college life.
Before the Aikido demonstration at PCC, the students had an audience with the President at the Capitol in Melekeok.
They will visit historical sites in Peleliu today and feel the nature of the Rock Islands tomorrow and try sea kayaking before their departure on Friday back to Japan.
