Airai recovered
from a slow start and outlasted Topside On Fire, 105-100, after two extra
periods of their encounter on Friday in the 2007 Shell National Basketball
League at the Palau National Gymnasium.
Alex and Wes scored six and five points, respectively, in the second overtime
to lead Airai for the win, the first double-overtime game this season.
Alex was scoreless in the first two quarters, hit a free throw in the
third, shot nine points in the fourth, which ended at 72-all and scoreless
anew in the first overtime that ended at 82-all.
Wes was also scoreless in the first two quarters, had two points each
in the third and fourth and had a free throw in the first overtime.
It was Despe who provided the needed points in the early goings but was
scoreless in the two extra times. Bele chipped in 18 and Temaid 12.
Cameron scored 36 points, the third best this season, while Frisco had
21 and Noid 14.
With the win, Airai further improved its record to 7-3 while dealing On
Fire its fifth loss in eight outings.
Another game on Jan. 11 was decided via overtime with the Blue Sharks
prevailing over Kabong, 88-85.
In the other game on Friday, Mesang defeated Palau Pacific Resort, 82-79,
with Anlloyd and Bevan leading the charge with 25 and 21 points, respectively.
On Saturday, the Bullets escaped with a 54-=52 win over PCC Mesekiu while
Klebokel defeated the Ngiwal 79ers, 69-64, and the Jaguars beat the Matadors,
77-52.
It was the Bullets third straight win and improved their record
to 4-5, while PCC absorbed its fourth defeat in eight assignments.
Klebokel also surged to its third straight win after dropping its first
six games while dealing the 79ers their third setback in seven outings.
The Jaguars seized the solo second place with a 6-1 mark behind league-leading
Stingers (8-0).
Earlier on Jan. 11, the Jaguars walloped the Kinsmen, 99-57, while Peches
defeated 79ers, 61-60, and the Blue Sharks won over Kabong, 88-85, in
overtime.
Regulation score ended at 69-all.
Caleb led the Sharks with 31, including nine in overtime, two from the
three-point zone, while team captain Tutii Benjamin dded 20.
Bisa Demei led Kabong with 29.
Peches is now in third spot with a 6-2 card.
