THE Saipan Little
League will hold a press conference today at 10 a.m. in the Gilbert C.
Ada Gym conference room to present to the community their plans for the
mini camp to be conducted by Major Leaguer JR Hattig on Saturday.
According to Saipan Little League Baseball Association vice president
Mike Borja, they want the public to know of Hattigs arrival and
will hold a camp for local kids just like the one former New York Mets
pitcher Kouichi Taniguchi ran in August last year.
Borja said the mini camp is open to everyone. The mini camp is open
not only to kids who will be playing in the upcoming Little League season.
The camp is open to all interested participants. Even if you do not have
a team in the Little League you can join.
Borja said he wants all kids to have the chance to learn from a Major
League professional player.
The Crime Stoppers, through Jerry Ayuyu, and local businesses joined hands
in helping the SLLBA organize the two-day mini camp by Hattig.
Hattig, the first Guam/Micronesian player to make it to the majors, played
third base for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hattig was born in Tamuning and resides in Dededo. He played 13 games
this season in the MLB posting a .333 batting average and getting three
RBIs.
Power 99 took care of Hattigs airfare and he will be staying at
PIC in San Antonio. Microl Toyota will provide transportation for him.
JG Sablan Ice & Water and Pacific Trading Co. are also major sponsors
of Hattigs trip to Saipan.
For more information about the mini camp, call Borja at 322-0340 or 322-9888/9451
or Ayuyu at 287-9104.
