Koblerville youth center vandalized

By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staff

THE Koblerville Youth Learning Center, which the Youth Affairs Office uses for tutoring elementary school students, was vandalized on Sunday.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas said the criminal mischief case was reported at 9:15 a.m.
The suspects broke the glass door and windows on the north side of the building.
They left firecracker debris on the floor.
Jimmy Marcelo, the Youth Affairs Office employee assigned to maintain the federally funded youth center, said he discovered the damage when he reported for work at around 8:45 a.m.
A resident living near the center told him that firecrackers were heard popping inside the building between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday.
Marcelo said since the contract of the maintenance worker was not renewed in June last year, he has been checking the center every working day.
The last time he was at the center was on Friday.
He said the Youth Affairs Office uses the center for tutorial sessions with elementary school students.
Community and business organizations also use the center for their activities.
The center was built in 2005.
DPS is urging anyone with information about this or other crimes to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272. A reward of up to $1,000 will be given for any information leading to an arrest.
