The Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity ended their one-week humanitarian eye-care mission in Palau last Friday.
John Michelsen, team leader of the University of California Berkeley saw over 1,000 people in their second eye-care mission to Palau.
This year’s visit, a doctor and 16 Optometry students made up the mission. Michelsen said in the two years they have been conducting the free eye clinic, at least 3,000 patients went to the free clinic for eye care.
The free eye clinic ran from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12.
Michelsen said most of the problems they have encountered are eye problems as a result of diabetes.
President Remengesau’s Special Assistant Risong Tarkong presented a certificate of appreciation to the group.
Tarkong said that the group’s visit is well appreciated.
