Hattig camp to be divided into five sessions

THE organizing Saipan Little League Board and the CNMI Crime Stoppers has divided into five sessions the mini camp to be conducted by Micronesia’s first Major League ballplayer JR Hattig on Saturday and Sunday.
CNMI Crime Stoppers’ Jerry Ayuyu said they decided to break up the mini camp into five different sessions in order to accommodate all the kids who want to have a chance to learn from the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman.
“We divided the teams that will be playing in the four divisions. Each group will have a one-and-a-half hour session with JR (Hattig) to avoid having all the kids in one place at one time,” said Ayuyu in yesterday’s press conference attended by Crime Stoppers’ Tom Blas, Sorensen Broadcasting’s Keena Bermudez, SLLB president Joe Salas and vice president Mike Borja.
Ayuyu said the five-session mini camp will make it easier for Hattig since he will have the chance to concentrate on one group instead of teaching a large group.
The Majors division teams of the Joeten Motors Patriots, Aztecs, Dragons, Bad News Bears and McDonald’s will be the first of Hattig’s students with the camp starting at 8 a.m. at the San Vicente Ballfield.
Hattig will have a 30-minute break after the first session with the kids at 9:30 a.m. and will resume his mini camp at 10 a.m. with players from Tinian, the CK Bears, Ol’Aces 1 and 2, Matrix and Red Sox as his students.
After breaking for lunch, the camp will resume at 1:30 p.m. with the Pirates, Twins, Braves, Hustlers and Little Legals.
Hattig will end the day with the Juniors division players at 3:30 p.m. The Aztecs, Jets, Ol’Aces, Fielders, Pirates and Hustlers will be Hattig’s students for the final session on Saturday.
On Sunday, Jan. 28, the Senior and Big League division teams will be Hattig’s final trainees at 8:30 a.m.
The teams that Hattig will teach are the Aztecs, Jets, Ol’Aces, Fielders in the Senior League and the Big League squads of Aztecs, Ol’Aces and Fielders.
The camp will end at 10 a.m. on Sunday and a skills contest will take place at the DanDan Ballfield afterwards.
Hattig will arrive on Saipan on Friday, Jan. 26, at 5:50 p.m.
The registration is still open and the sign-up deadline for the mini camp is on Wednesday.
The Crime Stoppers, through Jerry Ayuyu, and local businesses joined hands in helping the SLLBA organize the two-day mini camp by Hattig.
The sponsors of the event are Sorensen Media Group, IT&E, Pacific Trading Com., Pacific Islands Club, Aquarius Beach Tower, Hertz Rent-A-Car, Microl Corp., JG Sablan Ice & Water, Saipan Little League Baseball Association and the CNMI Crime Stoppers.
