A 29-year-old woman stranded in the waters after being swept out by a huge wave was rescued by other divers, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Eun Suk Jung sustained minor scratches to her knees, acting DPS spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr. said.
Blas said they received a call about a stranded diver at the Laolao Bay dive spot on Monday at 11:28 a.m.
Preliminary investigation conducted by Boating Safety Section officer Norbert Pua disclosed that the victim was on the reef line after diving when she got swept out by a huge wave.
Due to strong currents, the victim was stranded at the exit point of the dive spot.
Two dive instructors from Mei Dive Shop managed to rescue Eun Suk Jung and brought her to shore.
Blas said dive instructor Chang Bok Lee of Dive Y2K, who was in charge of the dive with the victim’s group, was found in violation of the 3 CMC section 5606 subsection B-1 for not having a valid dive instructor’s license.
Riot
In other news, police on Sunday arrested three men involved in a riot that hurt a 34-year-old bouncer and a police officer at the Monte Carlo Bar across from Hopwood Junior High School in Chalan Piao.
Arrested were Long Bai Xue, Cheng Zhe Liu and Zhe Hao Yu.
DPS said the riot broke out among a group of men that were at the bar at 1:26 a.m. on Sunday.
Responding police officers had to use mace on the suspects as “they were belligerent and were very uncooperative.”
DPS said the bouncer of the bar, Marcelo T. Romolor Jr., was also assaulted during the riot.
The other suspects involved in the fight had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the police.
Responding Police Officer John Cabrera was also assaulted as they were breaking up the fight.
