Tongan pro-democracy leader charged

NUKU’ALOFA (Pacnews) — Tongatapu No. 1 People’s Representative ‘Akilisi Pohiva has been released on bail after a brief court appearance on Friday.
Pohiva was charged with three counts of sedition.
He was one of the leaders of pro-democracy supporters who converged at Pangai Si’i on Nov. 16 before Nuku’alofa was looted and set on fire.
He is the third prominent person to be arrested and charged with the events of Nov. 16.
Two others charged include Tongatapu No. 2 People’s Representative ‘Isileli Pulu, and a local businesswoman, ‘Ofa Simiki.
