On Saturday, police arrested three suspected copper wire thieves who were caught breaking into a PTI panel phone line box on Capital Hill.
Arrested were Menjour B. Kaipat, 25, Samuel Sorroyan Defan, 25, and Andrew Choayen, 31. They were taken to the Department of Corrections for booking and detention.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr. said the suspects had cut phone line cables and buried them in the Capital Hill area.
Due to the damage caused by the suspects, residents in the area were temporarily without phone service.
DPS earlier arrested four other men involved in copper wire thefts.
First to be arrested were Erwin Evence, 31, Jesus Lucas S. Peredo, 19, and a 16-year-old boy.
The three were arrested last week after Detectives George David and Jesse Dubrall caught them in possession of a large duffle bag containing assorted wires.
The suspects had cut the phone lines of the mayor’s office and were on their way to a recycling center when they were caught by the police.
The fourth suspected copper wire thief, Jason Towai Mad, was arrested on Jan. 17 in San Antonio while in the act of stealing nearly 400 feet of electrical wiring.
