Saipan Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc. yesterday donated $25,000 to Northern Marianas College for the improvement of the Olympio T. Borja Memorial Library.
Acting NMC President Danny Wyatt said the money will be used to buy reading material and computers for the library.
“This will help the college immeasurably in these times of fiscal constraints,” he said. “It will assist us in expanding our support for education in the CNMI as identified in the college mission statement.”
NMC has a $6.1 million budget for this fiscal year. It used to receive $9 million.
“In these challenging times, I would like to seek assistance from other businesses as investing in education is a cost-effective and beneficial investment,” Wyatt said.
Mobil, he said, has been a constant partner of NMC .
According to Kamal Singh, president of Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc., they recognize that education is the foundation for the future of the community.
“We hope that the gift will enhance the learning environment for the students at NMC and those in our community who utilize the Borja Library,” he said.
