A 40-year-old man who was convicted twice for assault and battery was arrested Monday for assaulting his common-law wife and a minor.
Rodriguez Suka was detained for assault and battery, assault, child abuse, disturbing the peace, contempt of court and violating an order of protection.
He was brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing yesterday morning.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a cash bail of $10,000.
Suka was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections when he failed to post bail
The court set the preliminary hearing for Jan. 30 at 9 a.m. and the arraignment for Feb. 5 at 9 a.m.
Based on the police affidavit, a woman called the Department of Public Safety on Monday at 10:27 p.m. and asked that a drunk man be removed from her residence in Chalan Laulau.
Police Officers Katherine Manglona and Jimmy Sablan were dispatched to the scene and met the caller and her cousin who was the victim in this case.
The victim told the responding officers that her common-law husband hit her in the head and back with a purse while she was asleep early Monday morning.
She said Suka also punched her back.
Suka accused the victim of having an affair with another man but stopped assaulting the victim when her cousin arrived.
Suka left the house when the victim told him that she had called police.
But he came back later with a bottle of liquor.
The victim was already sleeping with her children when he came home late Monday night.
The victim was awakened as Suka accused her again of fooling around.
The children were awakened by the argument and sat close to the victim as Suka stood in the doorway.
He later approached the victim’s 11-year-old son, squeezed his cheeks, grabbed him and pushed him hard to the floor.
The victim got up and pushed Suka and told him to get out of the house.
Suka told the minor child that he would get something to kill the child and went to the kitchen and got a butter knife and approached the minor again.
The victim grabbed the knife and told Suka to move out of the place .
Suka was arrested later.
Court documents stated that Suka was convicted of assault and battery charges on Oct. 1, 1998 and on Feb. 3, 2005.
