FORMER EarthLink executive Dan Moffat has been appointed as the new president and chief executive officer of GTA.
Moffat, who will be based on Guam, was appointed on Jan. 11 by TeleGuam Holdings, GTA’s mother company.
Prior to joining GTA, Moffat was most recently executive vice president with EarthLink, which was acquired and merged with New Edge Networks in April 2006.
Moffat was co-founder, president and CEO of New Edge Networks Inc., a Vancouver, Washington-based company that builds and manages private networks for businesses and communications providers.
Moffat founded New Edge Networks in 1999. He has 25 years experience in the telecommunications industry and has pioneered various ventures.
He was president of GST Whole Earth Networks before starting New Edge Networks and had also previously founded a telecom strategy firm, Access Value Services, which was later sold to Cathey, Hutton and Associates, a telecommunications consulting company.
Moffat’s telecommunications careers included sales, marketing and operations positions with U.S. Intelco Networks Inc.; IBM/ROLM Corporation; U.S. West Corp.; and Tymnet, one of the original packet-based value-added networks.
“GTA has a long history of service for the telecom customers on Guam. We plan to maintain and improve upon this proud tradition as our first priority,” Moffat said in a statement.
A leading telecommunications industry expert, Moffat has served as vice-chairman of the Association for Local Telecommunications Services and on the board of the Competitive Telecommunications Association.
He was named Frost & Sullivan’s 2004 Telecom CEO of the Year. He currently serves on the board of Anesthesiologist Associates Inc. and has written and contributed numerous industry articles.
Moffat holds a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications from Golden Gate University, an MBA from Santa Clara University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California State University-Chico.
He and his wife, Jane, of 26 years, have three grown children. For leisure, Moffat surfs and participates in Ironman Triathlon competitions.
