Throw-Down tomorrow at UOG

For Variety

TOMORROW night the familiar rumblings that make-up the hysteria of mixed martial arts will again grace the University of Guam Field House in Mangilao as fighters from Guam, Saipan and California mix it up in a caged ring.
Pacific Extreme Combat 10 will feature over a dozen fighters in 10 head to head competitions. Top draws include Guam’s Manny “the Enforcer” Chong versus Charles Aiken from the Northern Marianas Islands. As well, a grudge match between Ryan “the Dentist” Urquizo and Wenyu “One Time” Bamba is sure to please the crowd. Bamba and Urquizo have won once each in the fighters’ two meets against each other.
According to PXC 10 representative Ken San Nicolas, “ ticket are going fast.” He says to get yours today at Hornet Sporting Goods in Tamuning, BJ’s Video in Anigua and at GuamCell locations throughout the island. Tickets cost $30 per person and $50 for VIP’s.
San Nicolas noted some interesting tidbits about the top billings on Friday evening’s fight card in Bamba versus Urquizu and Chong versus Aiken.
“The main attraction is Ryan Urquizu vs. Wenyu Bamba in the “Final Redemption,” explained San Nicolas. “This will be their third fight, Ryan won one and Wenyu took the other, so whoever leaves as the winner, takes two out of three.”
He added that in the Chong vs. Aiken match, Manny Chong currently holds the PXC Heavy Weight title. San Nicolas said the fight will be interesting because Chong lost to NMI’s Kelvin Fitial, whom Aiken beat in a previous bout. “This will be a good one. Manny lost a couple months ago to another guy (Fitial) from Saipan and Charles beat him.” San Nicolas added, “It’s going to be very interesting, if Manny loses, then the PXC Heavy Weight Championship belt goes to Saipan.’
During this meet, there will be just one Guam on Guam match between John Ogo of Spike 22 and Micah Tobias.
Guam’s Chris Duenas will take on Frank Gomez from California. Duenas will step down in weight class as he dropped about ten pounds to match Gomes who weighs 145.
Baby Joe Taimanglo will challenge Jimmy Jarquin from California. “Taimanglo probably racked up the most wins on Guam with a 7 and 2 record,” said San Nicolas. “He’ll fight Jarquin, who is well known for his ground and stand up fighting styles.
Jess Taitano will make a debut against Albert Manners from Hawaii.
The rest will be Guam versus Saipan bouts said San Nicolas.
Justin Cruz from Guam will face Jay Muna from Saipan, Nmi’s Slade Adelbai will challenge Mike Davis and Paul Quenga from Guam will fight Jason Tarkong. San Nicolas said Tarkong and Quenga are at age 38, among the most senior fighters but are among the fittest of all fighters. “They’re about 38-years-old, but they are both in great shape,” said San Nicolas. Brian Howard and Manny Laniyo will duel as well.
“Come and enjoy the show, it’ll be awesome, it’s inside a steel cage and it’ll be good,” stated San Nicolas.
