ORGANIZERS of the Basketball
Association of Northern Mariana Islands 25-and-under Basketball
League are asking interested teams to attend todays meeting in the
Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.
League coordinator Abner Venus said representatives of interested teams
that plan to join the league need to attend the 5:30 p.m. meeting.
Venus said they will finalize the details of the league at the meeting
and decide on the opening date. They are set to open the league in the
last week of February.
Eleven teams have expressed an interest in joining the annual tournament.
The tentative list includes two teams from the Garapan Rollers and the
San Antonio Sixers, the Sonics, Ghasias Brothers, OlAces, Cholos,
Saints, a team from Susupe and the CNMI junior national team.
League organizers and team representatives held a meeting last week at
which they agreed on the $500 entrance fee. If participating teams want
to have uniforms (top only), they are to pay $650.
Venus said they will be using the 25-and-under league to prepare the CNMI
Junior Nationals, who will be playing in a regional tournament on Guam
in November.
He said they will be talking with the Division of Sports and Recreation
about the availability of the Ada Gym, and they are targeting Tuesday
and Thursday playing schedules.
The Toyota OlAces won the 2005 edition of the 25-and-under caging,
beating Ulloas in the finals, 95-86.
