Wrong way

I CAN’T believe that after all the fuss with Tina’s letter, another member of the Legislature came out publicly to inform us that she has donated thousands of dollars of public funds. While I agree that the recipients of that donation needed all the help they can get, it was a wrong way of doing it. I really don’t know if it is just Tina and I that perceive this move as wrong.
Wrong in a sense because the lawmaker is using public funds for her personal gain. This only show that the Legislature does not need this huge budget and should consider cutting it to an amount that it will not be squandered.
Actually, I had high hopes for the congresswoman to do right and was expecting her to say what Mr. Alfred Ysrael said, and I quote, “As your representative, I have been careful with your money. What I promised to do, I did. I was at times controversial but I brought things out in the open to be openly examined, even at the risk of my own popularity. My record stands for itself, and I have the satisfaction of knowing at the end of my term as your representative. I have fulfilled my promises and services to the people of Guam. Successful politicians are those who add votes; I detracted votes, because I didn’t fear ruffling anyone’s feathers, forging new ground and far-reaching changes, if I had to, to make the system work.”
I now wonder who will say at least half of what Al said.
Anyway, since she came out and was probably hoping that she should be recognized for her thoughtful deeds, I say, congratulations, but do it on your own funds next time.
The truth is, she’s better off doing what she did because if it was me, I’ll probably pocket most of it because there is no guarantee that I will have a second chance, since majority of our voters are still so unpredictable. I’ve seen good people go and the not so capable get to stay.
