All set for ‘Our Commonwealth’ rally today

THE group that wants the U.S. Congress to consult the CNMI first before trying to “federalize” local minimum wage and immigration laws is encouraging community members to join the rally at American Memorial Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.
Calling itself “Our Commonwealth,” the group said members of the public will be able to communicate their personal thoughts to the U.S. Congress through a videotaped messages and letter signing at the rally.
“Make your voice count,” the group said in a statement.
Fred P. Deleon Guerrero, a member of Our Commonwealth, said all citizens who agree that Congress should consult locally, study, and consider the impact on the CNMI’s unique economy and culture any federal law that it intends to implement on the islands, should attend the rally.
“This affects all of us, whether business owners or employees, consumers or suppliers, government or private sector, rich or poor,” said Guerrero in a statement.
Our Commonwealth said CNMI business leaders continue to share with them their thoughts on specific actions they will take in response to the minimum wage bill that recently passed the U.S. House of Representatives and which is currently pending before the Senate.
These actions include downsizing of staff, and an increase in the prices of goods and services.
