Muna projects $15M reduction in revenues

OFFICE of Budget and Management Director Tony Muna says the government’s projected revenue for fiscal year 2007 may have to be reduced by $15 million.
The Legislature has approved a $193 million budget for FY 2007.
Muna said they expect to collect only $178 million, adding that he has already informed the governor and some lawmakers about the new projection.
A continuous enforcement of cost-cutting measures is needed, he added.
“We’re ahead of the ballgame with respect to reducing expenditures…we’re spending less than we projected,” Muna said.
He said any surplus will go to other areas that need immediate attention.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. earlier said that the administration may merge government departments and offices to further save money.
