EVER want to help fight crime? Here is your chance—a 5-kilometer walk/run sponsored by McDonald’s of Guam to raise money for the island’s anonymous crime tip hotline, Guam Crime Stoppers.
Showtime for the walk/run will be held tomorrow at 5:45 a.m. Go time is set for 6:30 a.m. at the Hagatna McDonald’s location.
Entry forms can be picked up at any McDonald’s location and at Hornet Sporting Goods in Tamuning. The forms can only be dropped off at Hornet.
T-shirts will be given to the first 800 finishers and light refreshments will be served. There will be a grand prize drawing for two round-trip tickets from Continental Airlines, along with numerous other raffle prizes.
McDonald’s encourages all students to participate. The school with the highest pre-paid registrations will be awarded $500 for their organization.
Guam Crime Stoppers, with the hotline 477-HELP (4357), is a non-profit organization entering its 22nd year of assisting law enforcers in solving crimes.
Guam Crime Stoppers offers rewards for tips leading to an arrest and conviction. The organization gets their reward money from donations from residents and fundraisers.
“Since 1985, the program has assisted law enforcement in the apprehension of 344 criminals, recovery of over $2.2 million in stolen property, over $1.7 million in narcotics, and has awarded over $20,000 in reward money,” according to a release from McDonald’s of Guam.
