Man arrested for attempted burglary

By Bernadette H. Carreon
Horizon news staff

A man was arrested for attempted burglary on Saturday for allegedly breaking in the Etpison residence in Ngerbechedesau, Koror.
Division of Patrol Chief Ismael Aguon said that the arrest of the suspect led to the recovery of pieces of evidence to string of burglaries last week.
Vice President and Justice Minister Elias Camsek Chin did not divulge the name of the suspect pending investigation.
Aguon said that on Jan. 19, Friday at around 10:25 p.m. police got a call involving an attempted break- in at the residence.
Aguon said the suspect was not arrested until the next day after he allegedly jumped from the safety railing of the Etpison compound upon his discovery by the house owners.
The police also did not confirm reports that the suspect had prior arrests in connection with reported burglaries in the past.
Aguon however said that the arrest had removed "a potentially dangerous man off the street."
Aguon said that initial investigation showed that the suspect may be responsible for the two or three reported burglaries last week.
Shallum Etpison, the house owner said that the suspect reportedly tried to enter their home by climbing on the second floor balcony.
However before the suspect gets to enter the house, Etpison said he discovered the intruder.
Etpison said the suspect was apparently trying to avoid their dog by attempting to climb on the second floor balcony.
Etpison said when he saw the suspect he threw a table at him but the escaped by jumping off the safety rail in their compound
Police followed the track and found the suspect on Saturday bleeding.
The suspect was reportedly hurt after he jumped from the rail not knowing that is it at least 60-feet high.
Etpison said that he heard that suspect has been reportedly prosecuted before for a string of burglaries and has escaped twice from jail.
He said it is surprising that he is allowed to roam around after being allegedly prosecuted for similar crimes.
Etpison said that the suspect was also allegedly responsible for the series of burglaries Thursday.
The suspect allegedly broke in the residences of Yuang Etpison and Neco Construction’s foreman.
The suspect allegedly stole items from the victims’ home while they were sleeping.
Etpison said this is the first time that the suspect was reportedly caught attempting to enter one’s home.
