SAMAHANG Ilokano at Pangasinense
and the PTI Yankees were on target last Wednesday, as they scored past
the century mark en route to downing their opponents in the 35-and-up
division of the Masters Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
SIP tripped the PTI Typhoons in a high-scoring match, 108-100.
SIP sealed the victory from the 15-foot-line, as five of its last nine
points came from the free throw line.
It was a come-from-behind win for SIP, which was down by 10 at halftime,
42-52.
With Dado Vistal hitting from outside, the PTI Typhoons controlled the
first half. He had 20 points in the first half and nailed six triples.
But Vistal went cold in the second half failing to score a single point.
Vistals silence gave SIP the opportunity to bounce back and tie
the game at 74-all at the end of the third quarter.
Rick Alegre and Melvin Villarin joined forces in SIPs comeback combining
for 25 of their teams 32 points in the third quarter. Alegre had
12 points in the third period, while Villarin had 13 and scored SIPs
last seven markers in that canto.
Alegre and Villarin were off in the fourth period, but their teammates
stepped up to complete the come-from-behind victory.
William Opone, who had only two points after the third quarter, had seven
in the fourth, Martin Moreno drilled two triples and Tony Diaz nailed
four.
But it was Ronald Delos Reyes who played a big factor in the remaining
minutes of the match.
Delos Reyes, who fired only four points at the end of the third quarter,
had a triple in the fourth and scored nine. He drilled six of SIPs
last nine points.
Tony Diaz topscored for SIP with 22 points, while Alegre finished with
20 markers. Villarin chipped in 15.
In the second game, Edsel Mendoza and Richard Brostrom scored 22 points
apiece to power the PTI Yankees to a 113-83 win over the OldAces.
The Yankees controlled the game from start to finish, as they had a balanced
offense with five of their players scoring in double figures.
Ed Palma contributed 18 points, while Bruce Berline and George Poquiz
added 14 markers each.
Elias Rangamar led the OldAces losing cause with 23 points.
