A 20-year-old woman charged
with receiving stolen property from a minor received a sentence of probation.
Isabel Sablan Ali appeared for a change of plea hearing on Thursday and
entered a nolo contendere plea.
Nolo contendere is Latin for I do not wish to contend.
It is a plea that is substantially but not technically an admission of
guilt.
Ali was charged with one count of receiving stolen property.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman accepted her plea and sentenced her to
one year of imprisonment, all suspended except for seven days.
Ali was given credit of seven days for time already served.
She was placed on one year of supervised probation and ordered to perform
40 hours of community work service.
She was also ordered to submit a letter of apology to the owner of the
stolen property, a bush-cutter.
Ali will pay a fine of $250 and a $25 assessment fee as well as a probation
fee to be determined by the Office of the Adult Probation.
A review hearing was set for June 7.
Ali was charged for receiving and pawning a stolen Kawasaki bush-cutter
owned by Gloria Agulto Cabrera.
A minor stole the bush-cutter and gave it later to Ali.
Ali then helped the minor pawn the bush-cutter at a pawnshop.
