A. Samoa congressman to chair key subcommittee

PAGO PAGO (Pacnews) — American Samoa Congressman Faleomavaega Eni has been elected chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and Global Environment.
Faleomavaega is the fourth most senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, which was previously known as House Committee on International Relations.
He said he is pleased that American Samoa will now have a voice in the serious matters affecting the Asia Pacific region.
He said these include finding new ways for the U.S. to resolve the North Korea nuclear crisis and examine U.S relationships with China.
As chairman, Faleomavaega said he intends to review tsunami recovery as well as human rights and democracy efforts in Indonesia.
