Darts, billiards set to start ’07 season

THE Saipan Electronic Darts Association and the Saipan Billiards Association are set to start the season with games tonight and tomorrow in various participating bars on island.
SEDA and SBA held separate meetings on Jan. 21 and 14 to finalize the details of their Winter/Spring seasons.
Sixteen bars fielded 39 teams in the five divisions in the three-month long league.
The participating bars include VFW Post 3457, Bud’s Bar, Oleai Beach Bar & Grill, The Flair Bar, Jonny’s Beach Bar & Grill, LES Bar & Grill, Joe’s Bar & Grill, Porky’s Beach Bar, Vince Sports Bar, Ysabel’s Restaurant, Wild Bill’s Bar & grill, Tan G’s Spot, Krystal Perfect Spot, BJ’s Bar & Grill, Bar Gaia and USSP Club.
The top three teams after the 2007 Winter/Spring season will receive trophies.
In the Summer/Fall season, Jonny’s Bar claimed the division crowns in the Tuesday B (Balite Boys); Flame Tree B (Most Wanted); Masters (Master Proofers) and Volcano A (151 Proofers). D’Arts won two division crowns, as the Snipers topped the C and Ladies divisions while the VFW Chapinos and the Tan G’s Dynamics won the Fanihi B and Rainbow A divisions.
Bud Light and MARPAC will continue supporting the league this season.
The SBA, meanwhile, will open its twice-a-year league tomorrow.
Fourteen teams will compete for the in the Winter/Spring title.
Godfather’s, Porky’s, USSP, VFW, Wild Bill’s and Ysabel’s will be returning sponsors next season while the new bars include Bud’s Bar, LES Sports Bar, Krystal Perfect Spot and Vince Sports Bar.
The SBA held its season-ending banquet on Nov. 28 at USSP honoring the top performers in the league.
Leading the list of winners was the Da Place Sure Shots, which also won the after-season tournament by beating the Wild Wild West in the finals.
The Hustlers ended up in second place during the regular season followed by the VFW Warriors in third.
USSP Fotten Palau and Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West came in fourth and fifth.
The Porky’s Nightbangers received the Sportsmanship award while Hustlers team captain Jerry Soriano was the hands-down choice as the league’s Most Valuable Player. Soriano defeated the Sure Shots’ RJ Mascariñas, 15-12.
The hosting of the award banquet rotates among the 10 member bars of the twice-a-year billiard league.
