A man who was charged for
assaulting his wife at their residence has pleaded not guilty.
J-Jay Reyes, 31, appeared for arraignment yesterday morning with his counsel,
Assistant Public Defender Kelley Butcher.
Reyes was arrested on Jan. 12 for assault and battery and disturbing the
peace for beating up his wife.
The police affidavit stated that the victim was sitting on the couch in
their apartment in Fina Sisu when the defendant started pointing his finger
at her.
The victim told the defendant to stop pointing at her. Reyes got mad and
asked the victim why she was yelling at him. He told the victim to face
him when talking to him.
When Reyes pointed at her again, the victim slapped his hand.
Reyes then slapped the victims face twice.
The victim immediately got up and went out of the apartment but was followed
by Reyes who pulled her hair.
He then took their baby and left their residence in a car.
Reyes was later arrested and taken to the psychiatric ward where he was
placed under observation.
The following day, he was transferred to the custody of the Department
of Corrections where he was booked and detained.
