A 40-year-old man was arrested
and brought to Superior Court for hitting his minor son with a rod and
reel on Sunday.
Associate Judge Ramona V. Manglona yesterday set a $5,000 cash bail for
Mariano Ankel Shianos temporary liberty.
He was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections when he
failed to post bail.
According to the police affidavit, Shiano was arrested at 7:39 p.m. on
Sunday for disturbing the peace, assault and battery and child abuse.
An unidentified female called the Department of Public Safety and reported
a domestic incident in Kagman III.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene and a preliminary investigation
revealed that Shiano hit his son with a rod and reel.
Prior to the incident, Shiano, his wife and son were at the beach on Monday.
Shiano and his wife were drinking whiskey and left the beach afterward
in a pick-up truck.
They began arguing after the wife refused to buy more alcohol.
When she burned Shianos hand with a lighted cigarette, he hit her
in the face.
He then stopped the vehicle in Garapan and the wife walked away.
Shian and his son looked for her until they found her.
They then drove to Capital Hill and stopped at an abandoned building to
urinate.
When Shiano saw that his rod and the reel was tangled, he hit his son
with it, according to the police affidavit.
The minor sustained a scratch to his arm caused by a hook that was connected
to the rod.
